HOW IT ALL STARTED

For years (maybe a couple decades) I struggled with alcoholism. What started out as a few social drinks here and there at cookouts, parties, or hanging out with friends turned into drinking to cope with whatever issues or complications I was dealing with. I’ve always been a “keep to myself” kind of person and the alcohol caused me to retreat even further into isolation. Although outside looking in it seemed I lived a perfectly normal life - behind closed doors I was being consumed by a disease that has killed millions of people, broken up marriages, caused people to lose their homes, and so much more. I would drink before going to work, after work - heck there was a point I even drank at work. I would even sneak away at home to hide from my wife how much I was drinking. I probably spent enough money in alcohol a month to afford a brand new car. What in God’s name was I thinking? I wasn’t, and that’s what alcohol did to me. It took away my ability to think about the consequences of my actions. I broke promises to people I loved again and again. I even broke promises to myself.  I was on track to losing everything.

September 8, 2019 God spoke to me through my father.  After our conversation I was filled with so much conviction, I finally decided to put the bottle down, but it wasn’t easy by any means. After 3 months of struggling to refrain from drinking, my wife bought me a drill set as a sobriety gift. I immediately went to work fixing things that I ignored before. Then I started building little things, and those little things turned into big things. I was distracted and having fun! 

What happened next completely took me by surprise. Someone asked if I could build for them!  Now I am overflowing with projects to do for others.

With every piece, no matter the size, I take great pride. I view it as a product of God’s grace and unfailing love for me. His vision for my life was so much fuller than I could have dreamed!
